What are CCCs?
Campus Conversational Circles (CCCs) are casual social gatherings involving a discussion on a particular topic about leadership and/or global issues.
UBC prides itself as a place of mind. Dollar Project hopes to contribute to this by providing an avenue where people can think and reflect. We want to give people more time for further exploration and learning. CCCs are not lectures; it is an opportunity for people to express their opinions and hear the opposing side, and to gain insight from multiple perspectives on an issue. It is a group discussion, an open exchange of ideas, and above all a birth place for action and friendships.
What are goals of CCCs?
We hope to spur friendships and encourage dialogue about current and pressing issues. We want individuals to empower themselves through knowledge of world events and to inspire small changes in individual behaviour that leads to positive, concrete, long-term change (i.e. Incorporating environmentally-friendly principles like reducing, recycling, and re-using, into everyday life).
What happens at a CCC?
A CCC begins with a stimulus (a video clip, an article, a presentation, a talk, or anything that generates dialogue or debate while still allowing adequate time for a conversation). Each CCC has a facilitator (members of the main collaborating groups, as well as the guest speaker) that helps to guide and focus the discussion and tries gives everyone present a chance to contribute.
Topics will be posted soon, and any on-campus/off-campus groups with similar interests are welcome to collaborate with our speakers. We heartily welcome feedback on past CCCs and any ideas for future ones! Topics in the past have included education, transition strategies, aid in China, sustainability, and homelessness.
